Just got a warning from a friend of mine that there's another very convincing PayPal scam email on the go. The email appears to come from PayPal and says that the account has been suspended due to suspicious activity / unauthorised login attempts and it asks you to put your details in again, including your bank account details. This is not genuine and neither is any email claiming to be from them and asking for bank details. PayPal always address you by name, not "dear customer" and they give certain details such as part of your card number to prove that they do have the information and just need you to confirm. Nobody will EVER ask for your PIN number; not even your own bank or the police. Last time something like this was going about, when we were all still at the DBC, I asked if a warning could be put out on the all staff email as many people only had access to the likes of eBay through the work computers but I was told it couldn't be done as it constituted a chain email! So I'm glad to be able to spread the word now. If you get a suspicious email supposedly from PayPal they advise that you forward it as it is to sp**f@paypal.com. OK. Thank goodness for preview. That's the second time I've fallen foul of the automatic censor when typing a completely different, perfectly acceptable and in this case absolutely NECESSARY word which just happens to contain a combination of letters that spells something else. The asterisks should be two "o"s.

Well that had me laughing out load Cal! LOL - it's always you as well! ;D You are correct of course about ignoring phishing e-mails (called that as they are "fishing" for your personal details) en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phishingand not just ones trying to look like they came from eBay or Paypal - but any banks or building societies etc. As Cal says, genuine ones will quote your personal details too - and here's a good tip: If you have any doubts at all, NEVER use the link to the web site in the e-mail sent to you. ALWAYS go to the site either by using the link in your own favourites folder on your browser, or go to the main site eg. www.eBay.co.uk and log in from there. All these types of sites nowadays have their own message system for you to see once you've logged in - so if they want to speak to you, they can do so securely.

The fact that it's "always me" may just be down to the fact that I'm the third most prolific poster on this board after yourself and FireFox! I have, come to think of it, seen at least one instance where someone else has been censored when talking about popping out for cigarettes; similar circumstances to the email address I tried to post... can I post "Arsenal"? What about "rehearse"? "Scrap"? "Swanky"? "Farthing"? "Saturday"? Hey, this is fun ;D feel free to join in, folks!

Update. I just replied to another thread about an amusing comment overheard on a bus. I was saying how I could imagine the laughter of the other passengers. At first I had used a word for laugh which rhymes with "bigger". Then I had a thought, and checked the preview. My post now reads "chuckling". I guess it's good mental exercise, flexing one's vocabulary.

I must admit this thread has had me chuckling. It has also made me read my replies much more closely than I usually would lol.
