Recieved this from Allan and got the OK to put it up here - sad news indeed.
Dear editor of Neuk Sad day for DCS. They (don't know who did the deed on these occasions) announced the closure of Manchester and Wembley yesterday. Situation is similar to Newcastle in that staff willl be redeployed, on this occaision to Jobcentreplus.
Staff in Manchester will be dispersed across Manchester but looks like Wembley staff remain in situ. Sorry Don't know where the work from these units is headed....early days. Allan

Sad News, although I'm not really surprised. I have now been out of work for a year now. I have applied for several jobs to no avail yet....I still remain positive though.

Sad news indeed, especially if the staff are not getting the options we did. I've heard the opinion expressed in the past that it may count against Manchester that they walked out in support of us when we were told we were closing. I am sure we are all with them in spirit. I feel for everyone in the other DBCs too as they must be wondering who's next.

I'm adding my sympathy for the staff at Manchester and Wembley DBCs. I don't think Manchester did themselves any favours with their well-meaning gesture of loyalty to us but I'm sure they didn't actually expect to be next cab off the rank. I expect DCS will now cram yet another new claims unit (or 2) into Warbreck, although geographically, Bootle would be the logical choice but hey - the last thing you're going to get from DCS management is logic and common sense. Not sure where Wembley's work will go - maybe to the DCS's golden boy, Cardiff or, as I suggested above, Warbreck will be bursting at the seams. Also, closing two at once is a bad sign - the previous closures (Sutton, Newcastle, us) were all individual closures - one is inclined to wonder if they'll go for the hat-trick of remaining DBCs next by closing Glasgow, Bootle and Cardiff and have everything based at Warbreck/Norcross? Sorry if that sounds cynical but doubt must now be lurking in the minds of the remaining DBC staff.

While I appreciate some people may genuinely not care, I certainly do. We worked with these people in some way or another and to think that hundreds have been forced into a job they may not like is not very nice. I am sure others will remember when they posted about "hating their jobs" and could maybe have a bit of sympathy.

Good point; compared to other offices we were very lucky to get the option of voluntary redundancy on compulsory terms and to have it honoured even though such an unprecedentedly high proportion of us took it. I can think of jobs and places I could have been forced to work at and been very unhappy as well as quite possibly having further to travel and Edinburgh is relatively compact. Staff in offices which closed before and after ours have had a much harsher scenario. These people in other offices are just like us; the only difference is geography and I think that is why I for one found that it struck a chord even though I left over a year ago. It's a very individual thing how people feel about the news. Everyone will experience their own level of response.

A bit late I know, but it is obvious that the DCS management team have had a bigger picture all along and I am sorry for these other office, especially the ones who supported us. Some of us were fortunate and others not so, in this current economic climate it must be a big worry for these staff and it is only a matter of time now for the remainder to be brought under the bingo wings of Big Mutta.
