Thought I would a new thread on Whisky or "Aqua Vitae". Every year I go the Whisky Festival, which is organised by Royal Mile Whiskies.
Essentially, it is an A to Z of malt whisky and you can taste all that is availible. The first year I went I only got to G, but with Arthur's guidance I am nearing the Z's closer every year.
My 2 favourate this year were Ardbeg's Corryvreckan: very smooth at 40% APV, deeply Smoky with a slight sweetness, goes down a treat and is like drinking liquid smoke. This is strong tasting whisky and has to be the last to taste, it will last on your palate all afternoon.
Ardmore 12, again quite smoky and peaty, with the sweetness of sherry, so good I bought a bottle for my collection.
If people are interested I will let the forum know of the next event and they can experience fully Scottish Malt Whisky at its best.

Oh yaaaaaay, I love malt whisky! The two you mention sound awesome. My favourites are Dalwhinnie, Highland Park, Cragganmore, Clynelish and BenRiach Curiositas (a peated version of the standard BenRiach). Out of which I'd say Dalwhinnie and BenRiach Curiositas are my absolute favourites. Dalwhinnie is very smooth and rounded, whereas Curiositas has the deep warm smokiness from the added peat. When I was in Inverness for a week last month I bought a bottle of Morrisons The Best 15 year old Speyside Single Malt which was on offer at £19.99, to have in my room in the evenings. It was such good quality for the price, very herbal and aromatic. Some of the supermarkets' own brands are well worth considering; I was given a bottle of Sainsburys 10 year old Islay malt for my birthday and that has a lovely powerful kick of spice and smoke.

wow, you obviously have the taste Cal125, yeah i have tried them, unfortunately Dalwhinnie doesn't last long in my collection, my preference are the Islay whiskies "Coal Ila" love the 18, I lease a square foot of Laphroig and they will pay me a dram when I visit!

I ordered Laphraoig for myself and my mother in the Centurion Bar in Newcastle Central Station on one of my visits after she met me off the train. The barman hadn't a clue and I had to point out the bottle to him. We've had a running joke ever since that the English translation of the name Laphraoig is "The green bottle in the middle"

I have also enjoyed Glenmorangie Quinta Ruban and Bruichladdich 3D was lovely too. You know your wine Cal and your whisky, Laphraoig was the first real malt I ever tasted. I never thought I would aquired the taste, but managed it via Ardbeg.
