I have long been interested in all things Inspector Morse - I am a member of the Inspector Morse Society.
In 2008 it was decided to pay tribute to a much loved actor. It was decide that a fitting memorial would be a bench at St Paul's (the actors) Church, Covent Garden, London. The society asked their members to subscribe to this (I am one of the subsribers).
On the 21st March, I will be going to the dedication of the bench. It is hoped that Sheila Hancock(John Thaw's widow) will do the honours - other guests will be Colin Dexter and other members of the cast and other friends !!.
I am really looking forward to it, all being well I might be able to post some photos !!.

Excellent! - I hope you get some decent photos for posting on here then. Thanks for posting as well, as things seem to have dried up a bit on here - and I'm no less guilty for not posting than everyone else - so will make a concerted effort over the next few days to remedy that! ;D

Sounds great. Hopefully someone will have a mug of whisky out of respect for DI Regan. They don't make cop shows like that any more.

Sounds like a great thing to be involved in. Always been a fan of John Thaw - but not that awful comedy he was involved in, can't even remember the name. It was some achievement to be so convincing as polar opposites Regan & Morse. Also guilty of not posting but nothing much of interest to say. Well, one thing but don't like to brag - I GOT ACDC TICKETS!!! Krystyna & i will be on a strict training regime of consuming booze whilst performing extreme aerobics - between now & June!

Boo! I'm jealous! - infact I was going to try and get AC/DC tix but I think it's at the same time as the British GP, or there-abouts, so I will be otherwise involved. Was just saying when I met up with Phil and Euan last week that the Black Ice album blew most other recent album releases out the (frozen) water! ;D

Totally agree. It doesn't exactly sound fresh as a daisy - but who would want that?! It does however compel their musical expertice into a frenzied want for lusts of yesteryear. These guys blister your ears (much easier when beyond 25yrs of age) with huge guitars, outrageous screechin vocals, drop dead drums & pound of sound bass - who wouldn't feel 16 again? Having read interviews with the guys, they are 16 forever but embodied in 60 (something) yr old bodies. Bummer! Guess we'll all have to shake it all night long - YEAH YOU!!

A short update - at the Dedication the confirmed guest list is Sheila Hancock, Colin Dexter, Kevin Whately and possibly Chris Burt (the producer of the series on TV). There will be 32 members of the Society - from England, Scotland, United States, Denmark. I am getting quite excited by the prospect of a good weekend me thinks !!.

Hi folks......
I had an excellent time in the Big City......and it is VERY big !!
The dedication of the bench was very moving, Colin Dexter spoke of John Thaw as "a modest man who was committed to his craft".
The dedication on the bench read - John Thaw 1942 - 2002 "Seldom, surely, has the death of a great actor brought such personal sadness to so many millions of admirers".
I was able to chat with Colin at length, something I will remember for a very long time - he is a real character !!.
A little bit of trivia for you - 1 in 7 of the world's population has seen at least one episode of Morse !!.
I hope to have a piccy for you soon - watch this sace.
