It seems ages since a proper ghost story came out on the big screen. Has anyone seen it? It doesn't appear to be on in many places but in my experience that's a good sign! (Event Horizon anyone?) I had an impulse to watch The Changeling again on DVD a couple of weeks ago; another of my all time favourites, I liked it so much that I bought the DVD before I had a DVD player I watched it on the smaller screen of my PC. It had stuck in my mind since I saw it on TV at least ten years previously and some may remember me shooting off out to HMV one rainy Monday lunchtime when the DVD finally came out. I think I got the only copy in Edinburgh at the time. That was a good few years ago now but I watched it the other week and next thing I saw the trailers for The Orphanage. Spooky or what? I'll let you all know what I think if I do get to see it. The truth is out there!

Orphanage was a cracker. Well worth the visit. The fact that the massive groups of school kids stayed until the end (after whispers about it being in "foreignish") told how much it gripped. Internally consistent and just damn good and creepy. The "hard boys" in front of me certainly jumped on numerous occasions.

I've seen it now and it was excellent!
Although there were some cliches and the twist was pretty obvious, it was so effective and yes there was a fair amount of shrieking with fright amongst the audience there too! It drew me in so that I didn't even notice that it was a long film for the genre and the subtitles weren't distracting at all.
Highly recommended.

I haven't seen it yet Cal - but will do soon hopefully. Heard it's quite a chiller!
